Using CellRepo solo or in a team
CellRepo supports two modes of working: solo or as part of an organisation.
Your choice determines ownership and visibility, but not how you record scientific work — repositories, commits, and tracking function the same in both cases.
Working Solo
Use CellRepo individually when:
- You’re exploring the platform for the first time
- You are not part of a lab or research group
- You prefer to keep work completely private or selectively share with individuals
In this mode:
- All work belongs to your personal account
- Nothing is visible to anyone else unless you explicitly share it
- You can still create projects, repositories, and full commit histories
Working Within a Team (Organisation Mode)
If you belong to a lab, research group, institute, or company, CellRepo uses organisations to manage shared work.
An organisation represents the real‑world group you work in. You can only belong to one organisation at a time.
Use an organisation when:
- Projects belong to the team rather than an individual
- You need shared visibility across people or labs
- Work must persist even if members leave
- Access control and consistent structure matter
In organisation mode:
- Projects belong to the organisation but can still be operated in private mode
- Access can be granted to specific people or groups of people (labs)
- Everyone sees the same structured, version‑tracked data
- Work remains centralised and preserved over time
